Natural Cycle IVF or Natural Modified IVF
Inspired by our partner clinic, CREATE Fertility in London, we offer Natural Cycle and Natural Modified IVF treatment.
CREATE Fertility is a pioneer in IVF treatment without, or almost without, the use of hormonal stimulation, and they get excellent results. We have learned the procedure from CREATE and expect the same excellent results from our treatments.
Natural IVF and Natural Modified IVF is more gentle on the body compared to IVF treatment using hormonal stimulation. Natural IVF uses no hormonal stimulation at all. In Natural Modified IVF we administer very mild hormonal stimulation during 3-4 days of the monthly cycle.
Natural cycle IVF and Natural Modified IVF are the closest you can get to falling pregnant naturally so there is no risk of over-stimulation.
WHO CAN BE HELPED WITH NATURAL AND NATURAL MODIFIED IVF?
All women can be helped with IVF treatment in a natural or natural modified cycle, but especially:
- Women with a very low egg reserve (low AMH)
- Women for whom hormonal stimulation has been less than optimal
- Women over 38
- Women who are genetically disposed to breast or ovarian cancer
- Women suffering from severe endometriosis
- Women who are against stimulating their body with hormones
NATURAL IVF FOCUSES ON QUALITY RATHER THAN QUANTITY
Women normally produce a single egg in the ovary in the course of a cycle. This single egg has been selected by the body’s own mechanisms, and there is therefore a good chance that fertilisation will be successful.
If hormonally stimulated, the body may produce up to 6-8 (or more) eggs in the ovaries. The eggs that have been given hormones to grow may be of fluctuating quality; some may not be mature, which means they cannot be fertilised by sperm cells.
Therefore, when we use Natural IVF, we retrieve the one good egg produced by the body itself from the ovary and fertilise it with sperm cells in the laboratory. If a woman has a low egg reserve, we recommend that she tries Natural IVF to be economical with the small amount of eggs she has.
NATURAL MODIFIED IVF
Natural Modified IVF is a treatment that takes place as part of the woman’s own natural cycle, but we give very mild hormonal stimulation. The medication is administered for 3-4 days to help the follicles develop and to prevent premature ovulation. In the modified cycle, it is also the body's own mechanisms that select the best egg. We achieve quality rather than quantity.
In a normal hormonally stimulated cycle, medication is usually administered for 8-10 days and in stronger doses.
COURSE OF TREATMENT, NATURAL AND MODIFIED CYCLE
In a natural or modified cycle, the treatment begins with a consultation with the gynaecologist. An ultrasound scan shows us how many eggs you have in reserve, the AFC (antral follicle count), and we check for polyps or fibroma in the uterus. We take blood samples and plan the course of your treatment.
When the scans show that the egg is ready, you come to Vitanova to have it aspired. The egg is fertilised in the laboratory and transferred back into your uterus two days after aspiration, or it is frozen for later use.
2. ULTRASOUND SCANNING
Natural IVF or Natural Modified IVF differs from normal IVF with hormonal stimulation in that you have to be scanned a bit more often, 2-3 ultrasound scans, so we can monitor the development of the egg in the ovary.
It is, of course, best if you can come to Vitanova for your scans, but if you live far away, you can be scanned by a gynaecologist in your area. It is important that you find a gynaecologist who is familiar with the scanning of follicles, so we are certain of getting the best result.
3. ASPIRATION AND TRANSFER OF EGGS
Egg retrieval (aspiration) and reinsertion of the fertilised egg (transfer), are performed in the same way as in the hormonally stimulated cycle.
